On August 19, at Bonhams & Butterfields Quail Lodge sale, the last Alfa Romeo TZ2 ever built for Alfa’s Autodelta factory team will go up for sale. Dominant within its category, this sexy TZ2, chassis “116,” was sold ex-works in 1967 to Belgian Count Rudy van der Straten’s private Racing Team VDS. The car was subsequently codriven by Teddy Pilette and Serge Trosch to a class victory in the Nürburgring 1,000-Kms and the Reims 12-Hours, and by Pilette solo to 4th overall in the Nürburgring 500-Kms. Chassis 116 went on to collect more national trophies and has led a very long and successful life, including a spectacular win at the 2003 Goodwood Revival Meeting.
