Sebring International Raceway has announced the addition of the inaugural Sebring Historics on the weekend of October 25-28 to its 2012 calendar of events. In conjunction with the 60th anniversary celebration of the Sebring 12-hour classic, the track is creating this new annual event to honor the historic cars that have competed on the legendary circuit over the years. Participation is open to all vintage and historic cars meeting the usual eligibility criteria for these types of events.
Sebring International Raceway President and General Manager Tres Stephenson commented: “Fans have always enjoyed our events featuring vintage racing. We see the need to raise the level of competition and quality of these events to reflect the importance of these legendary racecars, and to create an event that fully integrates competitors, spectators and the Sebring community. Our goal is to provide a higher-quality racing experience for our customers.”
Sebring is America’s oldest permanent road racing circuit. The 3.74-mile layout evolved from a WWII B-17 training base called Hendricks Field, and since 1952 has hosted the annual 12-hour endurance classic, America’s premier sports car race. Ticket information and details on how to register a car for the inaugural Sebring Historics will be posted on sebringraceway.com in the near future.
