With the Heacock Classic Gold Cup meeting on the first weekend of autumn at Virginia International Raceway, the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association closed the eastern portion of its 2015 schedule, which now has just two events remaining to be run, this weekend’s Mardi Gras in October at Louisiana’s NOLA Motorsports Park and the U.S. Vintage National Championship at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, on the first weekend of November.
At VIR, six drivers posted double victories in the 18 races for a dozen race groups on the soggy weekend, with Phil Wicks winning both Group 1 races with his 1967 Austin Mini Cooper S, Denny Wilson claiming both of the combined Groups 3 and 4 contests in his 1962 Lotus Super 7, Todd Treffert taking both Group 6 races with his 1974 Porsche 911, Nathan Scigliano twice topping Group 7a in his 2004 Carbir S2, Sean Brown doing double duty in Group 8 with 1975 Ford Escort RS MkI and Jacek Mucha placing 1st in both races for combined Groups 10 and 11 driving his 2006 Swift JMS 016 CP.
