The Freddie March Memorial Trophy race at the 2013 Goodwood Revival was held the evening of Friday, September 13th at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England.
This year’s 90-minute, two-driver race into the dark featured a collection of classic sports racing cars in the spirit of the 1952 to 1955 Goodwood Nine Hour races, including some examples of the Jaguar C-Type, Aston Martin DB3 and DB3S, Maserati A6G, Ferrari 750 Monza, Austin-Healey 100S, Alfa Romeo 3000 Disco Volante, Cooper-Bristol, Allard J2, Gordini and HWM-Jaguar.
At the start of the evening Freddie March Trophy race race, the kick-off to the 2013 Goodwood Revival, it was John Ure who starred aboard the ex-Tony Crook Cooper-Bristol, with John Young chasing in a Jaguar C-Type. Ure was among backmarkers barely four laps into the 90 minute race. Young got past on the run to Madgwick on the fifth tour, only for Ure to reassert himself within half a lap.
With the rain taking a turn for the Biblical, Young and Ure continued to stretch their lead until the pitlane opened after 28 minutes had been run. GT racer Alex Buncombe took over from Young, with Nick Wigley replacing Ure in the Cooper. Into the mix, however, came Sam Hancock who replaced Stefan Ziegler in the German’s C-type. After one safety car period to clear up a multi-car incident with 12 laps run, the race was red-flagged after Wigley had an off-road excursion. Young and Buncombe were declared the winners in their Jaguar C-Type.

Was SAM Hancock in the C Type not Ollie!!!;)
Boy, we sure do need another editor around here…! Thanks for the correction Sam. And great driving in those conditions. Fun to watch.
Ollie’s his brother. Fine work on Friday Sam.
Wonderful shots of great old cars in a typical wet British setting. Have hotlinked this report to my FB page, Looking Back Racing. You are welcome to visit to see similar sorts of cars in the USA with disconnected commentary of mine.
