Gooding offered more than 70 lots at their 4th annual sale, with eight cars selling above the one million and two eclipsing two million. The top results at the 2013 auction went to the 1928 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Semi-Le Mans Tourer that sold for $2,750,000 and the 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Long Nose Alloy at $2,365,000. Out of the eleven Ferraris offered, five sold for values in excess of $1 million.
Other notable sales at the 2013 Gooding Amelia Island Auction included the 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Derby Speedster, formerly owned by esteemed collector Bill Davis, that brought $1,980,000, a 1969 Ferrari 365 GTC that made $1,072,500 and the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring at $550,000.
“This year’s Amelia Island Auction brought fantastic results with 97% sold and five world records, with a couple that surprised us,” said David Gooding, president and Founder of Gooding & Company. “The Rolls-Royce Derby Speedster that more than doubled its estimate and the Fiat 8V Supersonic that soared past its high mark in support of St. Jude remind us of the magic that happens in the auction room.”
The FIVA-award winning 1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic returned to the auction stage in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The car broke its previous ceiling with a record-breaking sale of $1.76 million. The consignor of the 8V Supersonic donated all of the net sale proceeds to the hospital.
Gooding and Company offered 71 automobiles for sale, with 69 finding a new owner, reflecting a 97% sales rate. Total sales volume was $28,163,500, inclusive of buyer’s premiums. The average price per car sold was $408,167.
