Legends of Motorsports, a Bobby Rahal Signature Event, will have an exclusive Ford Racing Contingency Award Program for their 2011 events. Ford Racing will offer contingency payouts from first to third place for participants who race Ford powered entries, with Ford brand identity on their entry in specified run groups during the Legends of Motorsports events in 2011.
“We’re delighted that Ford has chosen the Legends of Motorsports series to mark their presence in historic racing as so many of the world’s most famous race wins have come under Ford power,” said Bobby Rahal, Series Co-Founder and 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner. “The Ford Racing Contingency Award Program offers yet another incentive for historic racers to become involved in our signature events in 2011 and gives them an opportunity to continue Fords’ race winning history.”
Ford Racing will award $600 in prize money per run group to participants who are using a Ford powered engine and Ford Racing branded entry during the 2011 Legends of Motorsports’ season. Run groups eligible in the contingency program include Classic Monoposto (including the Formula B and Formula Ford classes), Thunder & Lightning/Trans-Am and Historic Grand Prix with such legendary Ford Racing cars as the Ford GT40 and the Mustang GT350’s among many others.
“Ford has a deep and storied history in racing that is being brought to life at the Legends of Motorsports events so it is a pleasure for us to be involved and see some of our classic cars on track in present day racing,” said Mickey Matus, Marketing Manager, Ford Racing. “2011 marks our 110th year in racing and the Ford Racing Contingency Award Program is a great way to celebrate our continued presence in motorsports and encourage participation in historic racing for some of our most celebrated cars and their owners.”
The Ford Racing Contingency Award Program will be offered at all 2011 Legends of Motorsports events including Barber Motorsports Park (May 20-22), Circuit Mont-Tremblant (July 8-10) and Sebring International Raceway (December 2-4).
