George Follmer has been named Grand Marshal of the inaugural Barber Historics at Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park in honor of the 50th anniversary of his 1965 USRRC championship. Further, the May 15-17 event will feature Lotus as its honored marque and, of course, George won that USRRC crown with his giant-killing Lotus 23-Porsche. The USRRC Senior Tour will also be part of the festivities.
The Barber Historics is a new event for the Historic Motor Sports Association this year. Barber Motorsports Park was the original venue for the Légendes of Motorsports series, and returns to the HMSA schedule this year as one of five events on the calendar
The full schedule includes: the March 21-22 HMSA Spring Club Event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca where the Chevron marque will be saluted; the May 8 LSR Invitational at Laguna Seca; the May 15-17 Barber Historics; a second LSR Invitational at Laguna Seca on June 2-3; and the July 10-12 Sommet des Légendes, featuring BMW, at Quebec’s Le Circuit Mont Tremblant.
