A 1956 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa (above) took Best of Show honors at last Thursday’s 11th Annual Salon Privé Chubb Insurance Concours d’Elegance at Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, UK, with the People’s Choice Award bestowed upon a 1954 Maserati A6 GCS Berlinetta. The winning Testa Rossa was also the winner in its “Racing Improves the Breed class, with the People’s Choice-winning Maserati being runner-up in the same class.
In tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Lamborghini Miura, the special Miura anniversary class drew eight examples to the concours lawns as the judges chose the P400SV of Adrian Labi the ultimate winner. Other Italian winners included the completely original 1992 Ferrari F40 that won the “Dream Machines” class, and a beautifully restored 1972 Dino 246 GT which won the “European Grand Tourers” category.
Ferrari Daytonas also feature at this year’s show, with a 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 taking the “Gone with the Wind” class win, and a 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 being awarded “Best Interior” honors.
“There are cars that just impress from the start,” said Salon Privé Managing Director and Concours Chairman, Andrew Bagley, “and this year the 1956 Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa wowed the judges. Never having been seen before at a worldwide Concours, it was a sight to behold for any Concours connoisseur.”
For the winning Ferrari, owned by Bruce Lavachek and David Cottingham, the award capped a painstaking 40-year journey for Bruce to locate the car and bring it back to its former glory by utilizing the specialist skills of Cottingham’s DK Engineering firm. The list of winning cars follows:
