The 5,000 enthusiasts who attended this year’s 17th annual ‘Eyes on Design’ car show, in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, were treated to a spectacular exhibit that both traced the history and demonstrated the diversity of racecar evolution. Ranging in age from a 1907 Stoddard Dayton K Racing Runabout to the latest Ford GT Saleen and Viper Coupe, the show had something for everyone. Featured vehicles included formula and Indy cars, Le Mans and sports endurance machines, stock cars, muscle cars, funny cars, dragsters, land speed vehicles, dirt trackers, prototype and concept cars, roadsters and racing go carts. In addition to the 200 cars and handful of motorcycles on display, the EOD also included an exhibit of the works of 15 leading automotive artists. Recently retired racer Robbie Buhl was the Grand Marshal of this year’s event, the proceeds from which support the education and research work of the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology.
