Northern California’s Classic Sports Racing Group has announced that its forthcoming 14th Annual Charity Challenge, set for the weekend of September 29 through October 1 at Sonoma Raceway, has a good chance to put the club over the $1 million mark of funding raised for the Sonoma Chapter of the Speedway Children’s Charities. The cumulative total currently stands at $830,000.
The aim of the Sonoma Chapter of the Speedway Children’s Charities Sonoma County is to benefit those children in medical, social and/or financial need and the charity has distributed more than $5.5 million to those areas.
CSRG hosts the Charity Challenge Vintage Car Races as a way to give back to the Sonoma community by helping the charity and providing a fun event intended for families. Perhaps the most popular parts of the Saturday and Sunday racing are the midday spectator rides for those 18 and older without health issues. Anyone 16 or 17 may also ride, provided they have the consent of their parent or guardian. Between 40 and 60 cars of varying types will be available for three-lap rides around Sonoma Raceway in return for a tax-deductible donation.
On the track, the weekend’s featured marque will be the original Mini (above, Brad Fox photo), spotlighted by the Can-Am Mini Challenge. There will also be a track-sponsored Saturday night dinner for participants, and a vintage aircraft flyover in conjunction with a display of vintage cars and bikes from local car and motorcycle clubs.
Also on the schedule is the grand finale for the inaugural season of the Crossflow Cup for Vintage and Club Formula Fords. For details of this event, please contact Andrew Wait via [email protected]
