Mecum Auctions’ first-ever Denver-area auction held June 26-27, saw 396 cars sell for a total of $12,003,418. The sale was topped by a first-year Lamborghini Aventador sporting just 8,459 miles, which hammered for a high bid of $285,000. Demanding a $200,000 sale price was a unique and fully-customized 1962 Western Pacific 40-foot Airstream trailer. The mid-century, modern-styled trailer was restored by Timeless Travel Trailers and is believed to be only one of five of its kind left in public possession. Other top sales included a 1969 Pontiac Trans Am Ram IV that brought $180,000 and a 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster that changed hands for $165,000.
Paris’s fall classic car exposition Automédon, will be held for the 15th time at Paris’s Parc de Expositions on October 10–11 and will feature 9 major podium displays, with over 250 exhibitors and over 100 clubs participating. This year’s featured “podiums” will include historical tributes to: French Grand Prix cars; the Simca; the 60th anniversary of the Ford Thunderbird; Hot Rods; as well as the history of the motorcycle. Auctions America wrapped its third annual California sale on the weekend of July 17–18 with more than $15.4 million in total sales. The multi-day auction, held for the first time at Santa Monica’s historic Barker Hangar, lifted the gavel on approximately 300 collector vehicles and select memorabilia. Top sales honors were tied by two cars from very different eras: a 1938 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster and a 2004 Ferrari Enzo. Originally built as a 540K Cabriolet B before an expert re-body, the 540K garnered $1,870,000. The Enzo also drew significant attention from those in attendance, roaring onto the auction stage before also selling for final $1,870,000. Rounding out the sale’s top three and also achieving seven figures was a 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS, which realized $1,622,500.
