There was a great deal of speculation circulating at this year’s Monterey Historics (full coverage next issue) when Jim Hall arrived with one of his original Chaparral 2Es, as well as another, brand new 2E. Gossip in the paddock was that Hall’s Chapparal Cars, LLC was planning to manufacture five new 2Es, manufactured to original specification for sale. One source even claimed to know that the sale price was going to be between $300,000 and $500,000.
After the event, VRJ spoke with Hall about his plans. “Nothing’s been decided yet. We built the one car, using both new and new-old stock parts, but we haven’t finalized any plans yet,” responded Hall. When questioned on how many examples would be built and how much they might cost, Hall reiterated that no decision has been made yet, and likely wouldn’t be made for at least another two months.
However, it does seem apparent that Hall and company will manufacture some number of 2Es for sale, which will pose a very rare opportunity for a select handful of collectors. We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
