Cartier Concours at 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed

1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 StradaleThe Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ Concours d’Elegance will celebrate its 20th appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2014 with a display of automotive machinery across seven dedicated classes. Situated on the Cartier Lawn, the Concours d’Elegance continues to be renowned as the definitive celebration of fine automotive design and the display assembled at Goodwood will be no exception.

Class 1 will feature junior pre-war sports cars from long-lost brands such as BNC, Riley and Amilcar, while Class 2 is dedicated to the Mercedes 500K, launched 80 years ago, and featuring a wide variety of exclusive coach-built bodies including coupes and cabriolets.

Maserati, which celebrates its centenary this year, packs out Class 3 with a display of exquisite 1950s grand tourers bodied by Pinin Farina, Zagato, Frua and Allemano, while the ‘Mad Men’-inspired Class 4 features aspirational 1950s American two-seaters from Edsel, Cadillac and Mercury.

Mid-engined masterpieces that pre-dated what became known as supercars comprise Class 5, where you can expect to see examples of the Ford GT40 MkIII and McLaren M12 GT, plus the sensational Mazda RX500, while Class 6 celebrates the advent of the more-affordable ‘Pony Cars’, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the genre-defining Ford Mustang. Alongside Mustangs, Plymouth Barracudas and Dodge Challengers will feature heavily.

Class 7 will mark the growing interest in front-engined supercars of the 1990s, with the Lister Storm, Marcos LM600 and TVR Cerbera Speed 12 all expected to play a role.

Each beautiful car on display will be examined by an expert panel of distinguished judges, who will name a winner for each class and an overall winner.
