The Carmel Concours on the Avenue 2014 was held Tuesday, August 12th on the downtown streets of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.
A field of more than 200 automobiles were on display at the eighth edition of the Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue, vying for 14 major awards and Best of Show. This year’s event presented multi-marques from 1940 to 1973, in addition to Porsche and Ferrari from the beginning through 1989. Similar to previous years, Carmel-By-The-Sea’s Ocean Avenue was closed to traffic and sixteen blocks of downtown were filled with collector cars and related motorized items. As always, an interesting mix of automobiles were displayed in front of Carmel’s charming shops, galleries and restaurants.
A great selection of Porsche cars were on display at the 2014 Carmel Concours on the Avenue, including the 1969 Gulf Porsche 917, chassis 017/004, from the Canepa Collection; a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RS, 1972 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring and 1984 Porsche 911 SC/RS from the Ingram Collection; a well-worn Porsche 550 Spyder; the Glockler Porsche Special No.3; a Porsche 906; a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR and a Porsche 718 RSK.
In addition to the Porsches, further notable and interesting entrants included Bill Warner’s ex-Bob Tullius Group 44 Triumph TR6; Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta; Boano-bodied Ferrari 250 GT; Aston Martin DB4; Toyota 2000 GT; Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione; Ferrari 275 GTS; a great selection of Sunbeam Tigers and the noisy(!) Trans-Am Class from the Monterey Reunion.
Best of Show at the Carmel Concours on the Avenue 2014 was awarded to the 1969 Gulf Porsche 917, chassis 017/004, from the Canepa Collection. The recently restored 917 was the first competition car ever to score 100 points at the event.
