Can-Am racing burst on the scene in September 1966, and the technical potential of the virtually unrestricted new series was shown in the second round at Bridgehampton, where the radical, winged new Chaparral 2E startled the world. Here, Phil Hill in the Road Runner leads the Lola T70 of fellow F1 World Champion John Surtees down the Bridge's infamous plunging Turn One. Keeping them in sight is Chris Amon, whose McLaren M1B would nearly catch winner Dan Gurney by the end.
