Australia is preparing to present its finest public display of classic cars ever when it stages Motorclassica, the Australian International Concours d’Elegance & Classic Motor Show, in Melbourne on the weekend of October 22–24.
Inspired by major European and American classic car events, and staged at the Victorian-era Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton Gardens, the inaugural Motorclassica will feature more than 100 cars in addition to a broad program of social and on-road activities.
Among them will be a Classic Motor Show featuring automobilia, art and collectables, as well as classic and vintage car auctions, while an outdoor “Picnic with the Classics” will showcase Australia’s diverse history of popular motoring. Preceding the concours will be the six-day Tour Australis, cruising along Victoria’s finest driving roads and visiting its most enticing five-star scenic, cultural and epicurean attractions.
Further, all concours participants will join in Tour Classica on the opening morning for an extended scenic cruise through Melbourne. Motorclassica director Paul Mathers called Melbourne the perfect setting for the event, with a Mediterranean climate, grand goldrush-era architecture, extensive formal parks and a true appreciation of classic vehicles.
“Australia is blessed with some glorious classics, and with superb restoration and preservation trades to keep these cars at their best,” he said. “Along with some very fine local cars, our first overseas entrant is a Pebble Beach finalist from the USA, so we are looking forward to a very high concours standard.
