Against Their Will

During my mid-teens a particular photograph in Motor Sport caught my eye. It was of an old Aston Martin racing at Silverstone, and there was something about it that somehow encapsulated the excitement of motor racing and what it could be about.

Upon leaving school I was employed in the family business and also went to University. As the University was in another city my parents helped me purchase an MG TD, which was just a few years old. I enjoyed the freedom of driving so much I was always on the road going somewhere or another, the car was never cold. It was the most liberating experiences of one’s life. I got involved with all sorts of sprints, hill-climbs, and driving tests associated with the University Motor Club and the various motor clubs in the north of England.  Most weekends I was out and about competing in one event or another.
