The International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen, New York, has selected a 2017 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works model as its fund-raising raffle car this year. Turned out in “pepper white” with a “chili red” roof and mirror shrouds, as well as classic Cooper hood stripes, the two-door, front-wheel-drive car with a panoramic moonroof is powered by a 2.0-liter, 228-horsepower engine driving through a six-speed manual transmission with overdrive. It also features 17-inch silver aluminum wheels and heated front seats. The wholesale value of the car is $32,120.
The annual car raffle is a major fundraiser for the Racing Research Center, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Tickets are now on sale at $30 for one or $100 for four, and may be purchased on the Center’s web site www.racingarchives.org or by calling the Center at (607) 535-9044. Only 2,750 tickets will be sold.
The winning ticket will be drawn at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, during the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association’s U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International. The winner does not need to be present to win. IMRRC staff will be selling raffle tickets at various events this summer, including races at Watkins Glen International, where the car will be displayed.
