Citing the still-fragile state of the U.S. economy, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has announced that its Centennial Era Concours d’Elegance has been moved back a year, from its previously announced date of June 18–20, 2010 to June 17–19, 2011. The first Indianapolis 500 was held on May 30, 1911, so this rescheduling puts the concours in line with the famed race’s actual centennial. Speedway officials cited consultations with industry leaders as helping inform the decision.
The event will feature “some of the world’s finest classic and antique automobiles and motorcycles” as both an appreciation of the transportation industry’s contributions to the growth of the city of Indianapolis and a celebration of the competitive history that is central to the centennial observations.
