NASA’s Johnson Space Center will host Strada Corsa Houston, scheduled for the weekend of May 5-7, 2017, when enthusiasts of all ages will be treated to 400 historic road racing cars competing in eight race groups on a 3.4-mile temporary road circuit on facility‘s main campus in Houston, Texas.
Featured cars are anticipated to include Formula One, Formula 5000, Formula Atlantic, historic Pony Cars and 1950s sports racing specials. Corinthian Vintage Auto Racing will be the sanctioning motorsports body, and all cars will be prepared to 1972 SCCA specs.
Among those who have been invited to serve as Grand Marshals for the event are: Price Cobb, winner of the 1990 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Silk Cut Jaguar XJR-12, and recipient of the World Porsche Cup in 1986 as well as a three-time winner of Porsche Cup USA; and Davy Jones, winner of the 1990 24 Hours of Daytona and the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans, who also competed in the CART, IndyCar and IMSA series.
Attendees will be treated to numerous vintage automotive and aerospace displays. In celebration of the early years of space flight, NASA’s Johnson Space Center will tempt visitors with the latest hardware from the Orion Mars project and the James Webb space telescope. Space Center Houston will also conduct several tours, showcasing the Space Shuttle, Saturn 5 rocket booster, Mission Control and other historic vehicles.
