Bonhams London to Brighton 2011 – Auction Results

Bonhams held its annual 2011 Veteran Motor Cars and related Automobilia on Friday November 4th at their London saleroom, launching the weekend of the historic London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.
The Bonhams London to Brighton 2011 auction saw 147 lots on offer, including eight veteran cars (four that were entered into the 2011 London to Brighton run). The one-day sale realised a total of £694,000 with 91% sold by lot (81% by value).
Tim Schofield, Head of the Department comments, “Once again, the appeal of the London to Brighton run has a secured a busy saleroom and successful auction at Bonhams.”
One of the oldest cars entered into the London to Brighton run, a 113-year old 1898 Fisson 8hp Twin-Cylinder Six-seat Wagonette, sold for £156,600. It is believed to be the only surviving Panhard-style Fisson.
Also entered into the run was a 112-year old 1899 Panhard-Levassor Type M2F 6hp Wagonette that sold for £158,800. The French firm was responsible for developing the Système Panhard, essentially the layout of the modern motorcar, and the Type M2F 6hp Wagonette was an excellent example of its type. The other veteran motor cars entered into the run included a 1902 Renault 8hp Type G Two-Seater that sold for £89,500 and a rare 1902 Deckert 8hp Two-seater, selling for £66,400.
Further highlights of the Bonhams London to Brighton 2011 auction included a 1904 Pope-Tribune Model II 6hp Two-seater Runabout that sold for £34,500 (estimate £35,000 – 40,000), the 1901 Sunbeam-Mabley Cycle Car that made £65,300 (estimate £35,000 – 40,000) and the 1898 Daley Quadricycle that sold for £44,400 (estimate £30,000 – 40,000).
