The Goodwood Revival has proved a phenomenon in its relatively short history. What started life as a simple idea to stage a race meeting for historic motor cars has ballooned into one of the must-attend occasions of the classic car season. The event resonates around the world: 68,000 visitors attended the inaugural Revival in 1998, some 50 years after the Goodwood Motor Circuit first opened in 1948.

This year, over the three-day weekend of 9-11 September 2016, a capacity crowd of 150,000 dressed in clothing from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s descended upon the rural corner of England that is home to this unique glimpse into the past.

The Goodwood Motor Circuit is locked in time — 1966, when it was closed to competitive motor sport, deemed too dangerous for the ever-increasing power and speed of the automobile. Lord March and his team go to great lengths to safeguard the traditions of the circuit’s active years. No vehicle more recent than 1966 is allowed inside the grounds during the weekend. Tableau performances from the era add to the perception of stepping back in time. Spectators are offered a real opportunity to experience a small element of the past. The result is all smiles at the Goodwood Revival.
