The noise and spectacle of the Can-Am Challenge Cup sees a rebirth in 2011. The revival of this iconic series has been due to the hard work of the organizers Peter Schleifer, Trevor Parfitt and Alison Parfitt, and will be administered by Schleifer GmbH & Co. Peter Schleifer explained the primary goals of the new series, “We want to reanimate this highly exciting part of motor racing history. Both the Can-Am and Interseries events from 1966–1974 are remembered with affection by many racing enthusiasts. Younger fans, until now, could only read about the races in books. Now, they can experience the sight, smell and color of the races and bring those historical pages to life. Can-Am, in particular, is an unmistakable name that promises incomparable sounds of powerful cars including, McLaren, Lola, Porsche, Shadow, Chaparral and Ferrari.”
Eligible drivers must hold an International C license or higher. The cars are sportscar prototypes and two-seater racing cars (Gr4, Gr6, Gr7) that correspond with the relevant FIA homologations and Appendix K of the FIA International Sporting Code and have a valid FIA (HTP) Passport. They must also have been raced in the Canadian-American Challenge Cup or Interseries between January 1, 1966 and December 31, 1974, or be identical to one of those cars. The series makes its debut at the Dix Mille Tours de Navarra, in April and continues with a full program of events throughout the season.
