Among the many cars to be offered for sale at Russo and Steele’s annual Monterey Auction this weekend are a 1939 Alvis Speed 25 Tourer by Cross & Ellis, a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT/L Lusso and a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT.
The Alvis is the next-to-last of the 38 examples built and is fitted with a Luvax one-shot chassis oiling system, Luvax A.L.C. adjustable shock absorbers and a special-order fold-flat windscreen. Its original 3.5-liter overhead valve six-cylinder engine delivered 106-hp through a four-speed manual transmission. An AACA Junior winner at Hershey in 1992 following its restoration, the car has also been shown at both Amelia Island and Pebble Beach, an honor rarely conferred upon classics with nearly decade-old restorations.
The Ferrari (above) is one of just 350 of these beautiful performers built during 1963 and 1964, a stylistic tour de force and one of the finest all-around GT cars ever conceived. Winning the Ferrari Cup in 2011 and 2014 at the Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours and First in Class at Concorso Italiano in 2014, this amazing machine is a proven, platinum example. During September 2014, it was acquired by Adam Levine, the Maroon 5 front man and noted classic sports car enthusiast. Given Mr. Levine’s well-known love for actually driving his cars, it is completely up to date and operational, offering a excellent opportunity for astute collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The Porsche is a black on black example believed to be one of the 604 original North American delivery Carrera GTs. A U.S.-specification, emissions-compliant supercar, this is an investment-grade modern Porsche and an unqualified icon in its own time.
