“LIQUID” is the word coming most readily to mind; SENSUOUS being the next. The really exquisite fiberglass (!) body was by Franco Scaglione of Turin and appeared in various differing versions of the same shape. Evolved from the successful Type 33/2 Sport Prototypes, the Stradale (or ‘Street’) was developed and produced by Carlo Chiti and Autodelta from 1967-69 in both road and racing versions.
Only 18 examples were built of the 50 that were originally planned (there were two at the Monterey Historics a couple years ago). Power came from the same basic engine as powered the Prototype – a 2-liter all aluminum 90-degree 2-valve V8 with twin ignition and 230 HP, giving the 700 kg coupe a top speed of 260 k/hr. Pretty amazing for a 2-liter of that time. And it’s GORGEOUS!
