When Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche unveiled the Porsche 917 at the Geneva International Motor Show on March 13, 1969, little did we know that it would become one of the most successful and famous sports racing cars of all time.

Not only did the race car give Porsche its first 24 Hours of Le Mans overall win in 1970, but it also became a movie star in the Steve McQueen movie Le Mans. The Porsche 917 won the FIA World Sportscar Championship in 1970 and 1971 and, as a finale, the Porsche 917/30 so dominated the Can-Am series that it single-handedly decimated the series.
