Three Legends on VR’s Stand at the Classic Motor Show

Avatar photoMike Jiggle

Vintage Racecar/Vintage Roadcar’s European team has put together a fine array of cars to exhibit on the magazine’s stand during this weekend’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show at the National Event Centre in Birmingham. The three cars on display will be the BMW GTP as driven by David Hobbs and John Watson that was profiled in the November issue of VR, the Eagle HF89-Toyota, and last, but certainly not least, the 1970 Le Mans-winning Porsche 917.

Throughout the weekend star names will be visiting the VR stand for photo calls, book signings and autograph sessions. On Friday, 1970 Le Mans winner and former Grand Prix driver Richard Attwood will appear, while Saturday will feature five-time Grand Prix winner John Watson MBE, and Sunday — former Grand Prix Technical Director and Championship winning Constructor Ross Brawn OBE will be on hand.

World-renowned German motor racing artist Uli Ehret will be on the stand painting and answering any questions collectors and fans may ask about his work. New VR columnist Neville Hay is traveling from his Isle of Man home to spend the weekend talking about his life and times in motor racing.

“This is one of the most ambitious stands we’ve ever put together for a major international show,” said VR’s European Editor, Mike Jiggle. “We have something for everyone, which mirrors what we try to bring to our readers every month in the magazine. This will be the first time the two GTP cars will be seen in the UK. The BMW first turned a wheel on UK soil just a few weeks ago at Donington for our feature Profile, and to reunite John Watson with the car will be simply fantastic. Kicking the weekend off in some style with Richard Attwood and the Porsche 917 — winning car and driver from the 1970 Le Mans — is a truly amazing start on Friday. On Sunday, Ross Brawn, championship-winning engineer, technical director and constructor is simply the icing on an already rich cake. Of course, we must not forget Uli Ehret of Uli’s Racing Legends art studio of Weinhiem, Germany, who will be displaying some of his remarkable work, and our new columnist, Neville Hay, will talk about motor racing from the last six or seven decades. I look forward to welcoming all visitors the VR stand, 1-40, in the Premier Hall for what we trust will be a great weekend for all.’

VR subscribers will be able to meet and chat to the team, and renew their subscriptions. We also look forward to welcoming new subscribers to our fold. Each new/renewing subscriber will be able to choose a favorite Uli Ehret painting free of charge as part of the deal. Each day everyone buying a subscription will be entered into a draw for a free signed copy of the new Great Cars: Porsche 917 — The Autobiography of 917-023 book written by Ian Wagstaff and published by Porter International.

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show — the UK’s Biggest and Best motoring celebration — returns to Birmingham’s NEC this weekend, November 13-15. With more traders, exhibitors, dealers, clubs, new features and motoring celebrities, it’s the event of the year that you cannot afford to miss. For ticket details please go to
