On Feb. 15-16, a special reunion of engineers, designers, racers and enthusiasts of the Toyota 2000 GT was held in Japan to honor the launch of VRJ contributor Shin Yoshikawa’s new book on Japan’s first supercar. Among the American contingent present were collectors Craig Zinn and Bob Tkacik (who own 24 cars between them), as well as drivers Scooter Patrick and Davey Jordan, who raced the 2000 GT for Carroll Shelby in 1968.
Some of the many highlights of the weekend included two days of track events, the first at Yamaha’s test track at Fukori, which saw 33 beautifully restored 2000 GTs take to the track along with Toyota’s record setting speed trials car driven by veteran driver Shihomi Hosoya; and a second day’s activities at Japan’s historic Fuji Speedway.
