Thunderhill Raceway Park was built thanks to the efforts of the San Francisco Region of the SCCA. Realizing that two of its most used tracks, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Infineon Raceway (née Sears Point), were becoming very popular—too popular—the region wanted to insure the club always had a place for its members to race. Thus Thunderhill was born.
With its long layout (3.0 miles, 15 turns), high-speed corners and a setting in picturesque rolling hills, Thunderhill offers up the feel of a classic European road racing circuit. The track is in the small town of Willows, about an hour north of Sacramento, Calif. Since the track’s completion in 1994 it, as well as the town, have matured. (Willows has a Wal-Mart now!) Thunderhill has great garages, a kids’ playground, a rallycross track and a very nice timing/scoring/banquet facility complex.
