Drivers today try to be nice and personable and PR-presentable, even though for some you can tell it’s hard work. But there was a time in racing when such individuals figured driving hard was all the work their job called for.

“I didn’t really enjoy the press a helluva lot…I was much happier around the swimming pool at the hotel, and then straight to the circuit and do my thing. Not that I was hiding from the fans or anything like that, but I just wanted to be myself.”
