In a move to extend its acceptance of newer vehicles, SVRA has modified its current Group 10 and added two new run groups, numbered 11 and 12.
In announcing the new changes, the club stated, “SVRA has felt that as time marches on, cars we considered to be age inappropriate for Vintage/Historic racing are now approaching 25-30 years of age. It is our goal to incorporate these vehicles into SVRA while retaining the historical significance of our existing groups. To this end, we have more clearly defined Group 10 and added two more groups that will bring cars of the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s into our run groups. All this had to be considered without upsetting the historical and vintage significance of our current nine run groups.
“Our original nine run groups have not changed. Due to declining entries in some groups, there may be some combining of groups on the track, but without any significant impact. Time has taken its toll on some and others have now become too expensive to continue racing.”
Outlined changes include:
Group 10
Will now encompass IMSA GT, FIA GT Production-based cars, FIA Championship of Makes and American Stock Cars.
Group 11
1980–2005:
• IMSA GTP/Group C and Le Mans Prototypes/WSC and Daytona Prototypes
• Two groups of Trans-Am cars that extend from the mid ’70s to 2005.
Group 12
Is a work in progress. It is designed for cars of a more modern era. Porsche Caymans, GT Cup cars, Motorola Cup cars, Firehawk Challenge cars, etc. Class assignments will be determined by performance.
SVRA expects that these new venues will draw newer cars and younger people into the world of vintage racing.
