RM Sotheby’s will auction a baker’s dozen of iconic road-going Ferraris at its flagship Monterey sale, August 18-19, during the famed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance motoring week. Spanning more than half a century of Ferrari’s rich heritage, all the cars are low-mileage, carefully maintained examples from a single-owner collection.
Called the Ferrari Performance Collection (above, photo courtesy of RM Sotheby’s), the group is headlined by a superbly restored 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta — one of the last Ferraris made that was eligible to be raced at events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans with little or no modification, and one of the most iconic road cars ever produced. Chassis no. 2985, a GT variant, is the 110th of 165 ever built, and has Ferrari Classiche certification as well as notable history, including a Platinum award at Cavallino in 2016.
Joining the 250 GT SWB is another respected and famed ’60s Ferrari road car, a 1967 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta by Scaglietti, chassis no. 10147. Imported to the USA in 1967, and presented in factory-correct Rosso over Pelle Nera, this matching-numbers example is complete with original tool roll, handbook and Ferrari Classiche certification. There’s also a competition-focused, lightweight aluminum-bodied 1969 Dino 206 GT. With a mere 152 206 GTs ever constructed, this car is one of just 51 produced in 1969.
That trio highlights the collection, but the remainder of cars are all being sold with no reserve, including: a 1991 F40; a 2011 599 GTO; a 1984 512 BBi; a 2005 575; a 2009 16M Scuderia; a 1984 512 BBi; a 2004 360 Challenge; a 2009 430; a 1976 308 GTB Vetroresina; and a 1989 328 GTS.
