A remarkable selection of postwar sports cars and supercars highlights The Pinnacle Portfolio being offered by RM Sotheby’s during Monterey Classic Car Week next month. Some 25 cars will comprise the Pinnacle Portfolio, with the current headliner a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione with an extensive racing resumé.
Chassis 1773GT is among 45 alloy-bodied SWB Competizione versions built in 1960, and was prepared for racing by Luigi Chinetti’s North American Race Team (N.A.R.T.). Just nine days after its March 1960 completion, 1773GT raced in the ninth annual 12 Hours of Sebring, driven by George Arents and Bill Kimberly, who finished 7th overall and 5th in class. It was the beginning of a successful racing career during which it subsequently scored victories at Bridgehampton and Nassau.
Since then it has enjoyed the company of a string of gentleman owners and, upon its acquisition by The Pinnacle Portfolio, was given a complete restoration—back to its original Sebring livery—by Wayne Obry’s Motion Products Inc.
Another pair of classic Ferraris is also in the Portfolio, a 1959 250 GT LWB California Spider and a 1964 250 LM, while the more modern end of the spectrum includes supercars such as a 2008 Koenigsegg CCXR, a 2008 Lamborghini Reventón and a 2005 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo, as well as a 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8, all of which have outstanding performance pedigrees. So happy to see the car back as I remember it in 1960. Well done.
