RIP MG

MG Rover has gone bust. Rover will mean little to many VRJ readers, but it’s a fair bet that most will have owned an MG. There were nearly a quarter million post-war MG Midgets and over half a million MG Bs; then there is the MG A, the T-series, and so on back to 1924. More than 1.5 million MGs were made in a ratio of sports/saloons of 2:1, that is one million sports cars.

Most sports cars go through several owners—they reflect a period in one’s life. Multiply the total of MGs produced by three, four or five, add the partners wooed and won, and then the firstborn, which is usually why the car is sold, and the total is considerably larger than the combined populations of Switzerland and Sweden.
