The International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen, New York, is offering three tickets to the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 in a raffle to raise operating funds.
The tickets were donated by The Rev. Michael and Susan Hartney of Watkins Glen in memory of Michael H. “Jack” Hartney, an Indy 500 fan who attended the 1948 race, returning for more than 50 consecutive years beginning in 1960. Jack died in December 2014.
The tickets are for completely covered seats in Grandstand C, Section 6, located opposite the entrance to the pit lane and the north pit stalls. Each ticket also includes garage area admission on Race Day, Sunday, May 29, after the race.
The three tickets are offered as a single prize. The price per chance is just $30. Only 500 chances are being sold, and tickets may be purchased until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, with the winning raffle ticket drawn at the Center at 1 p.m., allowing time for the winner to make travel arrangements. As the Center is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, the purchase price of non-winning raffle tickets is a tax-deductible donation
The drawing precedes a talk about 1950s-era Indy racer Ray Crawford. Andrew Layton, author of Ray Crawford – Speed Merchant: A California Grocer’s Love Affair with Risk, From P-38 Lightnings to the Indianapolis 500, will be the speaker
