Remember the Fastmasters? A dozen of motorsport’s racing greats pitted against each other in identically prepared Jaguar XJ220’s? Well, the concept is back with an even better twist. 2001 will see the launch of the Shelby Cobra Challenge Senior Racing Series. Some of the legendary drivers confirmed to take part in this new series include Mario Andretti, Emerson Fittipaldi, Bob Bondurant, Bobby Unser, Parnelli Jones, John Morton, Dick Guldstrand and George Follmer, just to name a few. Each will drive an identically prepared CSX 4000 Series Shelby Cobra manufactured by Shelby’s Finish Line Motorsports.
Initial plans call for a series of six road races (unlike the Fastmaster’s short oval format). Four races will be held in conjunction with the CART events at Portland, Laguna Seca, Cleveland and Road America, with the addition of 2 other races, one of which may be at Watkins Glen with the NASCAR Winston Cup cars.
