Philanthropist Peter Mullin is founder of the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California, as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Petersen Automotive Museum.
VR: Tell me how you first became enamored with cars. Like so many of us, I would imagine you were bit by the bug when you were a child?
PM: Well, I did get bitten by the bug probably when I was 7 or 8 years old. Something like that. My dad was a chemical engineer who worked for Mobil Oil Company, so I used to go to car events and boating events where Mobil sponsored either a car or a boat or their oil was used in the engines. So he was always interested in viscosity of oil and coefficients of friction and I was interested in speed and performance and elegant shapes. So, we had a slightly different take on why we were going to those events, but I did get a chance to learn about engines and cars pretty early on.
