The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance 2013 was held Thursday, August 15th, starting and ending at the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center in Pebble Beach, California. The 16th annual scenic 88-mile trip around the Monterey Peninsula, held in association with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, was open to vehicles that are participating in the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours on Sunday, August 18th. This year saw over 150 historic automobiles take off from Pebble Beach for a tour of the region’s scenic driving routes.
Begun in 1998 to showcase the elegance of the automobile in motion, the Tour also underscores the early history of the place that is Pebble Beach. Decades before golf links were laid out along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, this area was known for its scenic drive, winding for miles through pine and cypress forest, dancing alongside dramatic cliffs and leading, ultimately, to a beautiful crescent-shaped bay.
“The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex underscores the fact that cars are meant to be driven,” said Concours Chairman Sandra Button. “The Tour is the perfect way to experience the elegance of the automobile in motion.”
Two separate starts grouped the cars together as they set off across the start line, past the Pebble Beach Lodge and on to the famous 17-Mile Drive. For the first time in 10 years, this year’s running of the Tour included a lap around the track at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. After the track, the Tour continued through the region’s valleys, hills, forests and dramatic cliff sides, touching on California Highway 1 in the direction of Big Sur until participants hit their turn-around destination at the Ripplewood Resort. Tour participants enjoyed a gourmet lunch in Carmel-by-the-Sea, plus a champagne celebration at the finish and commemorative gifts.
As mentioned, the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance was open to all entrants in the 2013 edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It is important to note that the Tour and the Concours are directly linked. If two vehicles tie in class competition at the Concours, the vehicle that successfully completed the Tour gets the nod.

What a phenomenal collection of priceless automobiles. Thank you so much for id’ing and uploading them so quickly. Man, I wish I was there.
The Tour does showcase the elegance of the automobile in motion but the impetus was the criticism of the Pebble cars being “under glass” or trailer queens”. This criticism did create a great addition to the Concours which gives the public a realistic and free view of the cars.
Brillian photo`s guys, especially with the sea in the background, love it.

What a fabulous expose’ of these cars. Thanks for sharing with those of us who did not have the opportunity to attend this spectacular annual event.
We could have a lot of fun captioning the photo of the 1908 Benz Prinz Heinrich and its occupants, as it barrels down highway 1, the drivers hand fittingly on the Ebrake and the navigator holding his hand as if to say help or “brakes, brakes”….
Best and thanks again…..
