Mike Matune

John Delane, a Historic Formula One racing driver from Southern California, recently celebrated a milestone in his 34-year racing journey when he raced upon his 100th racetrack. Delane has competed in over 412 events in 21 countries and is among the most successful of historic racing’s FIA Drivers’ champions, competing in both the Historic Formula One and Formula Junior classes. With over 17 FIA titles, Delane was the first American to win the overall Historic Formula One Championship, and the first to win two overall FIA historic championships in the same year.

On May 14, 2021, Delane notched up his 100th track, when he competed in VRG’s Jefferson 500 at Summit Point, WV. Driving his 1972 Chevron B21, Delane was cheered on by his wife of 55 years, Mimi, along with family and friends that travelled from all over the globe to see him claim yet another podium win. During the weekend, Director of Motorsports Operations for Summit Point, Edwin Pardue recognized Delane’s accomplishment with a Certificate of Achievement to commemorate the occasion.
