The 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport Aprile Roadster that made its Concours debut at Pebble Beach last month will be a featured automobile in the special classes of Pre- and Post-War Sports and Grand Touring Cars at the fifth annual Louisville Concours d’Elegance, held October 5-7, 2012 at historic Churchill Downs in Kentucky.

The Aprile Roadster was originally constructed as a supercharged Gran Sport chassis in 1931 bodied by Zagato as a racing car. The car was purchased with extensive damage in 1938 by Giuseppe Aprile, a coachbuilder in Savona who intended to rebody the Alfa in a style that would showcase the abilities of his Carrosserie. Aprile commissioned Count Revelli de Beaumont to designed the body.

The rebodied car was sold by Aprile to its third owner who kept the car until 1956. From that time until 2008 the car was part of a private collection and was rarely seen publicly.

The current owner, Mialanese architect and noted Alfa Romeo collector Corrado Lopresto, acquired the Aprile in 2008. A restoration has taken place since that time, culminating in the car’s recent debut at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Other automobiles featured in the Pre- and Post-War Sports and Grand Touring classes include a 1935 Adler Trumpf Jr. roadster, a 1938 HRG Airline Saloon, 1947 Delahaye 135 MS Teardrop Coupe bodied in Switzerland by Langenfeld, 1953 Cunningham C-3 Vignale Coupe and 1957 BMW 503 Cabriolet.

Cadillac is the featured classic marque for the 2012 Louisville Conconcours d’Elegance, with other special classes honoring Porsche Racing and Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg. Other classes include Vintage, American and European Classics, Post-War American Hardtops and Convertibles, Corvettes and Muscle Cars.

The Louisville Concours d’Elegance benefits Kosair Childrens Hospital in Louisville. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate.
