Liège-Brescia-Liège Diamond Jubilee

Avatar photoVR Staff

ClassicRallyPress Ltd. Has announced that it will organize three new rallies in the next 18 months! All three events, aimed at specific classic cars in standard, original specification, will follow the well- established formula of navigational competition and circuit special tests, combined with fascinating cultural visits, great camaraderie and top quality hotels. All accommodation, visits, maps and virtually all meals are included in the entry fee, meaning there are no hidden extras.

The first of these will be the Liège-Brescia-Liège Diamond Jubilee, set for next summer, July 11-22, 2018, which will mark the 60th anniversary of the original, incredible, rally for microcars. The rally will feature an “Authentic” category specifically for those cars that competed (or could have) in 1958, vehicles with displacements less than 500cc and in production by July 1958. The separate “Spirit” category is for cars in the spirit of the original event, up to 700cc and in production by 1969, including all Citroën 2CVs, Fiat 500s and Berkeley T60 and B95.

Competitors in the 1958 event covered 2,000 miles across Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy and Yugoslavia, running non-stop from Thursday night to Saturday morning, including traversing many legendary passes in the Dolomites such as Vrsic, Stelvio and Gavia. After resting for eight hours in Brescia, they drove all night and all day back to Liège, over the Gavia and Stelvio for a second time.

The Diamond Jubilee event will follow the same 2,000-mile route, but will be split into 10 days with a day off mid-event in stunning Ljubljana. More than 35 entries have already been received, including Zundapp Janus, Berkeley, BMW Isetta, Velorex, Vespa 400, Fiat 500, Messerschmitt, Steyr Puch, Citroën 2CV, UMAP, NSU, Trabant and more. Entries remain open, but will be capped at 50. For complete information please visit www.classicrallypress.co.uk

The second new rally, the Mycenaean-Minoan Rally-Tour, will take place from March 31 to April 17, 2019. Following successful rallies for Jaguar XK and E-Type owners in the Dolomites and Pyrenees, the next exciting Jaguar event yet will spend three weeks exploring Greece and Crete. Europe’s most ancient civilizations were there for good reasons: both locales boast stunning scenery and delightful spring weather, complemented by superb, deserted roads in both mountain and coastal regions, excellent hotels, great cuisine and amazing historic places to visit. The event’s format allows everyone from the competitive rallyist to the relaxed tourer to enjoy the event completely, with more than one night at most hotels and options ranging from rallying to exploring to relaxing.

Starting from Igoumenitsa, an overnight ferry ride from Bari in Italy (to which covered transport for competing cars is an option), the rally will traverse northern Greece from west to east, exploring its forgotten, beautiful mountain regions to visit the second capital, Thessaloniki, then turn southwest through stunning inland scenery including Delphi, to pick up the magnificent coastline and enjoy the quiet western islands. A good look at the Peloponnese (and, of course, Mycenae) is followed by the overnight ferry to Crete. Here the rallying is better than ever, as warm spring sunshine combines with outstanding coastal views and roads that nobody knows. After a week on Crete in two superb hotels, everyone will head for Athens and the Prizegiving Dinner — on a rooftop terrace in front of the Acropolis.

The third event will be the 2019 renewal of Liège-Brescia-Liège, set for July 11-21, 2019 and dedicated to the TR Register. Triumph TRs were great rally cars, from the TR2 to the TR8, thriving on events like Liège-Rome-Liège and Liège-Sofia-Liège from the same organizers as Liège-Brescia-Liège. Those events are too long to re-create authentically, but Liège-Brescia-Liège is ideal for TRs, so for 2019 it will be run in conjunction with the TR Register for all TR models and derivatives. The route will be covered in nine days, with a day off in Ljubljana. Early indications are that the rally’s 40 entry places will be filled very quickly.
