Nine race groups have been announced by WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for its upcoming Spring Classic Showcasing Nitro Revival, set for the weekend of May 18-20 at the Central California circuit.
The nine groups include the following: Can-Am (1966-1974); 2.5 Liter Trans-Am (1966-1972) (above, Jim Williams photo); Formula Atlantic (1967-1979) and 2-liter Sports Cars (1970-1984); IMSA GTP/LMP/WSC/DP/GTO (1990-2007) and FIA (1973-1987); SCCA GT & IMSA RS; Formula B (1965-1978) and Formula C (1965-1977); Formula Ford (1967-1980); Sports Cars under 2.0 liters; and Historic Stock Cars (1974-2007).
Each group will race twice each day, and a one-hour endurance race for three of the groups will take place Saturday afternoon. Following the afternoon’s road course activity, a formation of nitromethane-powered dragsters will light off their engines in a “Line of Fire” mass fire-up that promises to amaze and ignite the senses.
The hot rod culture will be further celebrated with Ace’s Hot Rod Hangout, an assembly of pre-1973 hot rods and customs. Some 200 hot rods are expected to assemble in the paddock to provide a welcome and entertaining element to the Spring Classic.Complementing the automotive activities, 40 vintage motorcycles will emerge from their paddock display to take exhibition laps each day.
