Hurley Haywood has been named Honorary Chairman of the Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival 2010. Haywood will be on hand during the Festival’s Savannah/Hilton Head Speed Classic event, October 29 – 31, offering celebrity hot lap rides and setting the standard for others to compete against all Festival long on Forza Motorsport 3 on Xbox.
“Hurley Haywood just seemed to be the perfect fit for this year’s event as we set the Speed Classic on a weekend of its own for the first time this year. We’re excited to get him out on the Grand Prize of America Track on Hutchinson Island and give the attendees a real show,” said Carolyn Vanagel, the Festival’s Executive Director.
Haywood closed his storied career with strong showings in the Brumos #59 car including a first place finish at Homestead alongside Joao Barbosa and, at the 2009 Rolex 24, an unforgettable third place behind his teammates in the Brumos #58 car winning. His many wins include five at the 24 Hours of Daytona, three at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and two at the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Haywood currently serves as Vice President of Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, FL as well as Chief Driving Instructor for the Porsche Sport Driving School and Brumos U, the company sponsored driver familiarization program. He has been inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, the Motorsports Hall of Fame of American, the Sebring Hall of Fame and Watkins Glen’s prestigious “Legends of Glen’ Hall of Fame.
