Following an extremely successful inaugural season in 2007 the GT & Sports Car Cup race series for Pre-66 GTs and Pre-63 sports cars of a type that ran in the World Endurance Championship in period has extended its calendar to seven rounds across Europe.
The season will start with a round at the HSCC Silverstone meeting, to be held on the International circuit, before returning to the historical city of Pau, for the competitors to enjoy this very challenging street circuit. The Coppa Intereuropa, which used to be one of the highlights of the historic racing calendar, is being revived for 2008 and will host the GT & Sports Car Cup for its first re-edition on the very fast circuit of Monza. Other Highlights of the calendar will be Dijon, always one of the competitors’ favorites.
The Grand Prix Historique de Charade will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the track, together with the late Innes Ireland’s famous victory at the wheel of his nimble Lotus 11, against a very strong group of Ferrari 250 GTs. The GT & Sports Car Cup will therefore be putting a group of as many Lotus 11s together as possible, with contemporary ’50s sports cars and small capacity Pre-’66 GTs. The series will then have a GT race at the HSCC Donington meeting, which has been extended to a two-day event. The GT & Sports Car Cup will be heading south for the final round of the season on the long 5.8-km track of Paul Ricard.
