Group B rally cars will be featured at the 72nd Members’ Meeting, scheduled for 29-30 March 2014 at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England. The sight of fire-spitting, waste-gate chattering rally monsters running flat-out on the Goodwood Motor Circuit is sure to provide one of the enduring memories of the debut Members’ Meeting.
The awe-inspiring Group B machines will be featured in a sprint-style event. Cars will be released individually in a standing-start one-lap format, giving spectators the best possible chance to appreciate their staggering performance.
Examples of every significant four-wheel-drive Group B car will take to the track, in multiple liveries and evolutions. All will be running in their ultimate tarmac specification, with lowered ride height and additional aero pushing the fat slicks onto the asphalt – the fastest iterations of the most spectacular rally cars ever made. With upwards of 600bhp available, and weighing less than 900kg, the acceleration, braking and handling of these cars will need to be seen to be believed. Indeed, so rapid is their acceleration that special measures will be required to avoid cars running on the rev limiter in top gear for long periods on the fastest parts of the circuit. Temporary chicanes will provide opportunities for sideways showmanship, as well as additional acceleration and deceleration zones to help demonstrate the awesome agility of these rallying giants. Goodwood is working closely with the Motor Sports Association to confirm details, giving due consideration to the Group B category’s sensitive history.
Expect to see a line-up of at least 15 Group B warriors including the Peugeot 205T16, Lancia Delta S4, Ford RS200, MG Metro 6R4, Audi Quattro, Citroen BX4 TC, and more.
