Frank Dominianni, who won the SCCA’s B Production National Championship in 1964, has passed away at the age of 86. Upon returning from multi-decorated service with General George Patton in Europe during World War II, Dominianni returned home to Valley Stream, N.Y., where in 1947 he opened Hi-Speed Power Equipment and gained broad recognition as an expert engine builder. His shop was one of the first to use both engine and chassis dynamometers to help tune his and his customers’ racecars, and he became an expert on fuel injection after Chevrolet introduced its Rochester F.I. system in 1957.
He began racing a variety of Corvettes, winning the aforementioned title with his fuel-injected ’62, and was considered something of a Bridgehampton specialist, with nearly a quarter of his career race starts and many of his greatest victories coming at the long lost Long Island venue. To his surviving family and many friends in the sport and in the business, Vintage Racecar offers its sincerest condolences.
