An array of classic Fords and Porsches will be among the featured offerings at Barrett-Jackson’s 45th Anniversary Scottsdale Auction, set for January 23-31 in the Arizona city.
The Ford selection features a matching-numbers original 1970 Boss 302 Mustang (above), a trio of meticulously restored Mustang Boss 429s and a pair of Ford GT supercars — all of which will cross the block with No Reserve.
“Ford has been an integral part of the Barrett-Jackson family for many years,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “That’s why we’re excited to have our Scottsdale docket filled with rare Ford performance vehicles.”
The Boss 302 rolls on its original factory tires and has much of its original paint. A one-owner vehicle, it is still titled in the original owner’s name and has 44,000 documented miles. It retains its original matching-numbers engine, transmission and rear end, and the interior is also original and intact. Among the trio of Boss 429s is a Royal Maroon 1969 Fastback that was a single-owner car until 2014, when it received a ground-up restoration. It has only 19,500 miles on the original engine and 4-speed manual transmission. The second Boss 429 is a restored 1970 with rare Grabber Green paint and only 40,900 miles since new, a matching-numbers car with a 4-speed close-ratio transmission and “Drag Pack” 3.91 traction-lock rear end, while the third is a Calypso Coral 1970 that was restored in 2013.
The 2006 Ford GT has only 5,718 miles on its odometer, and is one of 343 Heritage Edition models produced with the iconic Gulf Oil livery. It’s powered by a supercharged V8 driving through al 6-speed manua transmission. Also included is the original documentation from Ford. The second GT is a low-mileage 2005 example with a 550-horsepower, 5.4-liter V8, finished in red.
Also on the 45th anniversary docket in Scottsdale is an impressive group of collectible Porsche sports cars that includes a rare Weissach Edition 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder, a 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster, a 1977 930 Turbo and a pair of 356s.
“Porsche sports cars have become particularly hot collectibles over the past 18 months,” noted Jackson. “The cars feature iconic styling and great German engineering. They deliver a wonderful driving experience yet are typically more reliable than other Europeans.”
One of only 918 made, the Weissach Edition 918 has logged only 595 miles, and represents a rare opportunity to own one of the world’s highest-performing supercars. The 911 Speedster is one of but 814 produced for the U.S. market that year. It features many Turbo model bodywork and suspension upgrades, and its odometer shows only 12,628 miles. The Ice Green Metallic 930 boasts its original three-liter turbocharged engine and original transmission, as well as black leather sports seats with tartan fabric interior inserts in Black Watch Green.
One of the 356s is a 42,000-original-mile 1965 SC Reutter Cabriolet that left the factory as a stripped-down road-going machine with only a handful of options. It underwent a comprehensive restoration, during which various desirable features were added, but it still houses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission. The other is a 1962 Super 90 Reutter-bodied Cabriolet that has enjoyed an excellent nut-and-bolt restoration on a rust-free California car.
