First-Ever Corkscrew Hillclimb Attracts Impressive Lineup

 VR Staff

Sixty cars, ranging from a 1925 Bugatti Type 35 to a 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning EV and 2022 Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance driven by professional racer Ben Collins, will challenge Laguna Seca’s legendary turn—but in the opposite direction— during the inaugural Corkscrew Hillclimb and Community Day Sunday, August 21.

The Community Day activities at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will follow four days of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion that celebrates the kickoff to the yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The race paddock will be full of the cars that competed in the Rolex Reunion and heritage cars from the Le Mans Legends Heritage Display, presented by Motul. Guests may also enjoy Moet Champagne and treats within the new Café Le Mans and stroll through an unforgettable display of Pagani hypercars in between their hot lap sessions. Complementing the experience are Cars & Coffee, a Ferris wheel, go-karts, and more to please all ages.

“Our intent for the Corkscrew Hillclimb and Community Day is to open the doors and celebrate Monterey Car Week from kick-off to conclusion by welcoming our area residents with a fun, relaxed day,” explained John Narigi, president and general manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. “Plus, how fun will it be to see these cars go reverse course and climb Laguna Seca’s iconic turn that is known for so many memorable downhill moments.”

Among the special invited cars to take a run up the hill are the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette with Formula Drift ace Matt Field behind the wheel and “Doc Hudson,” the loveable character from the movie Cars.

Tickets for the Corkscrew Hillclimb and Community Day are just $35 (children 15 and under are free) and are available at the admission gate, or in advance online at WeatherTechRaceway.com. Parking is free.
