The Royal grounds of St James’s in Central London will be filled with a wonderful line-up of sixty cars for the UK’s 2013 Concours of Elegance, scheduled for September 5-7 in the gardens of the 300 year-old Royal Palace Marlborough House, adjacent to St. James’s Palace, the official residence of the Sovereign.
Event organisers announced a banner entry lists that includes more than 20 cars coming from the UK, 16 from Europe, 13 from the States and the rest from as far afield as Argentina, Mexico and Russia, many of which have never been seen in public. Among the headline entries at the 2013 St. James’s Concours is a 1928 Bugatti Type 35B, winner of the first Monaco Grand Prix in 1929; the 1953 Mille Miglia-winning Ferrari 340 MM Vignale Spider; and a 1969 Porsche 917K 023, winner of the 1970 24-Hours of Le Mans.
Winner of “Best in Show” at the 2012 Windsor Castle Concours of Elegance, Jon Shirley is bringing the one-off 1954 Ferrari 375 MM by Carrozzeria Scaglietti that was commissioned by film director Robert Rosselllini for the actress Ingrid Bergman. The entry list for the 2013 St. James’s Concours of Elegance also includes two World Speed Record holders and a number of other unique cars with notable histories both on and off the track. An extremely eclectic mix of rare cars, offering something for everyone.
The event aims to raise money for a number of charities working in the field of cancer care, support and research. The principal partner will be Marie Curie Cancer Care, the charity which gives people with terminal illnesses the choice to die at home, surrounded by the people and things they cherish. Last year’s event raised in excess of £250,000 for charities.
In just one year, the UK’s Concours of Elegance has become one of the most talked about events on the international historic car calendar. Tickets can be purchased at www.concoursofelegance.co.uk or by calling the Ticket Factory on 0844 338 8000. (International visitors, call +44 121 767 5052.)
