1962 Maserati 3500 GTI Vignale Spider sold for €553,500, a world record price for the model.

The VI Artcurial Automobiles sur les Champs 2013 auction was held 20 October in Paris, resulting in €4.6 million in total sales and an 88% sell-through rate for the automobiles. The 6th auction in Artcurial’s ‘Automobiles Sur Les Champs’ series of Paris sales was held at the Artcurial headquarters on the Champs Elysées.
The top result at the October 2013 Artcurial sur les Champs auction went to the 1962 Maserati 3500 GTI Vignale Spider that sold for a world record €553,500, versus the pre-sale estimate of €300,000 – 400,000. One of just 242 examples built, this matching numbers and hard top-equipped Grand Tourer has been restored.
The event attracted an international crowd with 35% of the cars going to foreign buyers. Other notable results included the 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400 that sold for €459,700, the 1972 Dino 246 GT at €250,300 and the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE that changed hands for €209,400. Artcurial’s final sale of 2013 closes a successful year for the auction house, with a combined sales total of €30.6 million, an increase of 14% from last year.
The automobilia sale was 100% sold with a rare Lalique owl mascot dating from 1931 changing hands for €113,000 against the €15,000 – 25,000 pre-sale estimate.
Maître Poulain, who conducted the sale, commented, “This sale produced some wonderful results with the presence of so many committed enthusiasts. There was great interest in the automotive-inspired objects, with record-breaking prices for the radiator mascots including the creation by René Lalique that sold for seven times its estimate. The automobile sale alone realised €214,000.”
